The Play-In Game and the Giants
Even though it’s pretty likely they won’t be a part of it, the Giants would make people hate them even more if they were to be participants in this one-game playoff. This was a team that used eleven pitchers once in an eleven inning game against the Diamondbacks. Bruce Bochy also knows how to platoon the crap out of a late inning game, imagine if he scrapped two of his starting pitchers on the roster to include two more relievers to give himself a fourteen-fifteen man bullpen. If Bochy managed a play-in game, the game would take a while.
Dave Cameron gave an interesting idea for skipping the starting pitcher and sticking with relievers, and it’s been generally agreed upon that this idea is too radical for any MLB manager, but as for me, I’d love to see it played out. While Cameron talks about the Braves, the Giants could be a team that would be able to pull this off, too.
This is one game where really anything can happen (because it is in fact, wild), so yes, you can make your 25-man roster whatever you’d want it to be, but I’d load mine the f up with arms and bench bats…. but mostly arms, so I can see a Santiago Casilla AB.
Can you imagine if the play-in game were between Bruce Bochy and Tony La Russa? For those fans that never wanted a baseball game to end, they’d really get their wish.
As of right now, the playoff schedule lists both one-gamers to be on Friday, October 5th on TBS.
