NLDS: And the #SFGiants Game 3 Starter Is…
Ryan Vogelsong.

Tim Lincecum was seen doing sprints with the relievers before Game 2 on Sunday for the first time all year according to the Mercury’s Alex Pavlovic, so that tells you he was the first one ruled out to non-team eyes. This narrowed it down to Ryan Vogelsong, and Barry Zito. Even if you go down 2-0, I don’t think it makes much sense to throw Matt Cain out there on 2 days rest after having the Reds go all launchpad on him with 6 HR in 3 GS for Cain over the course of 2012.
Ryan Vogelsong in his last 3 starts went: 17 IP, 12 H surrender, 1 ER, 3 BB, and 15 K’s. The Giants won both of his starts against the Reds by one run.
Barry Zito in his last 3 starts has gone: 17.2 IP, 22 H, seen 7 ER hit his record, 5 BB, and 15 K’s. Both Zito and Vogelsong have predictably better splits at home than on the road. The Giants gave Barry Zito only 3 runs of support in his two starts against the Reds, which were both losses.

Earlier today the Reds announced that no-hitter-of-the-Pirates guy Homer Bailey would be moved up a day to pitch Game 3, while leaving Games 4 and 5 pitchers TBA.
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:30PM PST at Cincinnati and will be on TBS.
